With Latest Dental Digital Camera, Kodak Keeps Popular Ease-of-Use Design, Introduces New Flash Technology

View the Kodak DX7590 Demo

Chicago, IL, Feb 25 -- A new 5.0 megapixel digital photography system from Kodak, the KODAK DX7590 Dental Digital Photography System, features the user-friendly design of previous Kodak cameras plus a customized, integrated ring flash and close-up lens system.

The KODAK Dental Flash & Close-up Lens provides even, shadow-free lighting for dental macro photography. This new flash and lens system easily attaches to and detaches from the camera body, ensuring smooth operation. Its world-class optics technology supports professional, accurate dental photographs, including single-tooth close-ups.

The KODAK DX7590 System also features:

  • Higher resolution 5.0 megapixel CCD to provide clinical documentation of image detail;
  • Twice the internal memory (from 16 to 32 megabytes) to increase storage capacity;
  • A distance guide and positioning grid to enable dental professionals and practice staff frame standard dental views consistently and professionally;
  • Award-winning KODAK EASYSHARE Software and an illustrated dental digital photography guide;
  • KODAK EASYSHARE Printer Dock to enable fast, high-quality 4x6-in. dye-sublimation prints and one-click transfer of images to a computer or network.

The printer dock also includes a battery charger; storing the KODAK DX7590 Camera on the dock means the battery will always be charged and ready to use.

The KODAK DX7590 System is backed by KODAK customer support and its advanced-unit replacement warranty: if the camera is found to be defective within one year of purchase, it will be replaced.

Dentists Praise Flash, Image Quality, Ease-of-Use

"The KODAK DX7590 Dental Digital Camera System is a great product," said John Flucke, DDS, Lee's Summit, MO. "The new ring flash system provides incredibly even, uniform lighting. The camera is also very easy to use. In less than ten minutes I could train anyone-anyone who has even picked up and held a camera before-to take great dental photographs using this camera.

"Kodak has put a great deal of thought into the process of dental photography, and it shows," Flucke added. "Their cameras are the 'better mousetrap' of dental digital photography."

"Every dental digital camera Kodak designs is better than the last, and the KODAK DX7590 System is no different: it's by far the simplest and easiest-to-use camera ever," said Scott Benjamin, DDS, Sidney, NY. "The self-contained ring flash is superb and does not require any additional batteries. It illuminates the entire mouth extremely well. I believe it will be particularly important when doctors need to photo-document soft tissue lesions."

Dr. Benjamin also commented on the camera's image quality. "The color accuracy is far superior to that of other cameras. This is because Kodak's imaging scientists have complete control over the illumination, the firmware (embedded software) and the sensor. This control means they can control how the flash, the firmware and the sensor work together. You just can't accomplish that degree of color accuracy with after-market flash adapters or software."

Jeff Dalin, DDS, St. Louis, MO, said, "I absolutely love the camera. I loved the last dental digital camera Kodak sold as well. The main difference with the KODAK DX7590 Camera is that you have the ring flash. The new flash lets you get better intraoral shots. You don't have to worry about shadows anymore."

The camera's ease-of-use, Dalin added, mean that anyone on his staff can take photos of patients. "Before I started using Kodak's dental digital cameras, I was the only one in the office who photographed patients. Now, everybody on my staff can do it. Nobody is afraid of this camera."

Dalin also praised the system's printer dock. "The KODAK DX7590 System Printer is one of the best features of this product. It's a dye-sublimation printer, and the prints from it are as good as what you get from a photo lab. The prints are some of the best you'll ever see-far better than inkjet prints."

"Our commitment to the dental professional is to make it easy to capture high-quality, professional intraoral images," said Michael Beltrami, global digital product line manager, Kodak's Dental Systems Group. "With our camera, dental professionals can stay focused on their patients, because they know Kodak does the rest: we take care of the imaging technology and quality."

Dental professionals can purchase the KODAK DX7590 Dental Digital Photography System from authorized dealers of KODAK Dental Systems products.
